Installing XP on an Acer 5735 for my friends mam. (So I really have to do a good job, to get some pro points) and no matter what version of the audio driver I install I'm getting no sound.

Tried everything I can think of and consulted a few friends but everyone seems to be stumped...

I'd appreciate some input on the matter from anyone.

Maybe try reinstalling the other drivers too.

If that doesn't work then all you can really do is start from the very beginning and reformat it again.

It would also be worth your while to see if anyone else has had any other issues like this with the same laptop

Is there any unknown devices in device manager?

Have you installed the chipset drivers?

Uninstall the audio device in device manager and reinstall it.

Just a few things to try / look for.

Audio drivers can be a complete bitch to deal with, especially with the likes of Acer.

Make sure the chipset driver is intalled and reconisged in Device Manager.

Google a driver detection program like Everest that will tell you exactly what type of audio card is on the motherboard. That should help you narrow down what type of driver you need to install.

Have you tried shouting at it? :P

IF the sound card is dead,or producing distorted sound get an external usb sound card,
    see here http://www.google.ie/search?rlz=1C1GGLS_en-USIE295IE342&aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=usb+sound+card

usually comes with a driver cdrom.
THEY used to sell em in easons stationary dept 4 12euro.
IN control panel, device manager remove the existed onboard sound card.
