No buses to exams this year?

I just saw this in the Students Union newsletter....
The Exams office will not be providing buses to the off campus exam locations this year and students should make their own arrangements to ensure they reach exam venues at least 20 minutes before the exam starts. Details of bus services to Salthill are available here: http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1202229915-Galway1.pdf and http://www.galwaybus.com/wp-content/gallery/citydirect/37.gif

I thought the buses were organised by the Students Union, not the exams office.

Surely the money each student pays on each trip covers the cost of this? Pretty bad form to be pulling the service without even giving a reason.

It makes sense! They dont seem to be using the racecourse this year. They never provided busses until they started using the racecourse a couple of years back.

    Exactly.
Racecourse was the only reason for the buses in the first place. The distance out to leisureland isnt really justifiaction for a bus.... unless you mean the bus eireann buses, use them.

Oh I didn't realise they weren't using the racecourse anymore! Are both the Arus naMacLein and the kingfisher going to be used now?

Yep, Racecourse was probably too expensive to rent, so college reverted back to the old faithfuls such as the Galway Bay and Leisureland (with the addition of the Kingfisher, of course). Thankfully, I don't think they're back in the Community Centre! It's a pity though that the Kingfisher is taken over by exams, and everyone has to pussyfoot around the gym!

Ahh, the irony: the regular bus service to the racecourse is better than the one to Salthill!

Anyways, I'm pretty sure they didn't have a licence to operate an exam bus-service, so technically shouldn't have been happening anyway.

All my Christmas exams are on-campus luckily.

Do they still use GMIT and teh Mervue Community Centre? Hated going to those two places for exams. Didn't mind the racecourse as you could drive and easily get parking.
