What's the best remedy for getting rid of a cold overnight?

I feel as if a bus ran over me.

2 packs of airwaves would be a good start (esp. the green ones).

It can't be as bad as you say, would you post on AHs if a bus had run over you.
    I call foul. :pac:

Lemsip is good, and plenty of fluids.

I have found a huge overdose of Vitamin C does no harm and can be quite quick about getting rid of the symtoms, but I have also found a really strong Chinese curry with lots of onions also tends to scare the virus away.

I think honey and lemon in hot water is supposed to be good for sore throats and a boost of vitamin c. (I'd prefer oranges or blackcurrant though)

Garlic is supposed to be great for general health aswell, so like a previous poster said a good curry with lots of garlic and onions should be good.

Keep warm, and get LOTS of sleep.

If it's starting off in your head, Vicks 1st Defence is the biz for nipping stuff in the bud but you probably haven't any of it in the house. Plenty of hot drinks and paracetamol. If your nose is running- Actifed is marvellous if you have it.
Gargle mouthwash or if you've none, salt and water or vinegar to stop it travelling to your throat and chest. Look after yourself..maybe it's swine flu!!!

You know you're actually correct there :D

Studies show that having sex shares anti-bodies which can help fight viruses such as influenza, common cold and sore throat

Moral of the story: Lets spread the love (and germs, and dont forget the anti-bodies, suppose we'll have to spread the legs too:D)

meh. vitamin c is a myth. anyone who listens to Dr Karl on 5live on weds nights will know that already though. there's some theory that echenesia (sp?) may help keep the cold at bay, but for the moment, tea + paracetamol + bed. and sex if it makes you feel good!!

    Ahhhh the dreaded Woman-Cold!

How come whenever a woman gets a flu or cold they feel like a bus ran over them. If you had to go through what a man has to go through you'd know all about it.

Women with WomanCold just exaggerate their symptoms to get attention from their husbands who run around after them with soup and blankets etc.

If men can go through nine months of pregnancy and give birth all the while multi-tasking then surely women can cope with a little WomanCold.

    Suck it up!

OP we can't help unless we know your symptoms, and the only way to know that is some semi-nekkid pics. So...

    Pics or GTFO.

Also, vitamin C seems to work for me, if you have a sore throat gargling with Disprin Extra Strength is amazing, and a big thing is getting to bed early.

Drinking. Anytime i have a cold i just grin and bear it and head out for a few scoops. Always seemed to clear it up.

Otherwise i'll take garlic the minute i feel it coming on. Cute up a few cloves and lash them back with water.

I was taught how to make a drink with onion, honey and lemon juice- doesn't taste that great, but it always works.

If your throat is really sore and irritated, Manuka honey is really good. Disinfects the throat!

I didn't think anyone would actually have a practical need for this information, it is After Hours!

Get two or three onions, cut them in fourths. You'll need a big pot of water, to boil the onions for 1 hour or so to make the 'onion juice'; the strain it, put it in a jug or something similar, and put it in the fridge (cover it with some cling film if you don't want it smelling).

When you want it then, fill a mug about 3/4 full, pop it in the microwave for about two minutes on a high setting. Then, throw in about 2 teaspoons of honey (believe me, it tastes so manky without it.) You can chuck in a bit of lemon juice/ vitamin tablets too if you feel like it.

Haven't made it in ages, but I think that's everything.

Have a few hot whiskeys. Plenty of lemon. However no matter how tempted do not mix whiskey with lemsip. Not a good road to go down.

Oxytocin would be the main reason for this.

When I was growing up if you were hit by a car (exaggerating slighty) they would trot out the boiled 7-up and marietta biscuits.

Presuming that is that they had no Oxtail soup of course, but that goes without saying mind :D

    We must have been poor.

I got Marietta biscuits in a bowl with a small amount of hot water, just enough to make them swell up.

    Then they were mashed.
    Yum!

Can I just state that they tasted a bit like baby food but for grown up kids.

/I couldn't eat them like that now though..

The crap they fed / experimented with us as kids is crazy.

You remember Milk Mate & Quick Lunchs and Granby Burgers? I lived on this junk as a kid .. haven't felt right since tbh :)

Uniflu is good I think if you can start taking it when you find a cold coming on.

Others as stated - salt and water for throat or soluble disprin.

    Hot whiskeys as well.

i was recommended the hot whiskey and lemsip combo last night. why do you reckon its not a good road to go down, have you tried it?

Lemsip contains the equivalent of two Paracetamol per sachet. Alcohol and Paracetamol noy a good combo.
