Help - 8600GT just died

Just opened my macbook pro there to a blank screen, rebooted a few times but no luck. Fortunately or unfortunately, it doesn't work through on an external display either so I assume the GPU has died?

Has anyone ever had any similar to this issue and how long will I be without my mac as I need it for work and college?

edit: just saw the thread below relating to a similar issue...

One thing I need to know is how to backup by time machine without the mouse (due to the blank screen)?

it depends on which service provider you use and how busy they are. where in the country are you? I'd say you'll be without your machine for 3 or 4 days

I'm in Dublin which is lucky I suppose! If it only took a week I'd be delighted

Just have to borrow another mac now to access my timemachine files as Macdrive on Windows can't unfortunately!

Yeh I think I'll just buzz Apple and then Mactivate as they seem to have a good rep with the boardsies - hopefully it should be quick and painless!

This is all fairly weird. Having the exact same problem. Was on to Mactivate this morning as per your post. Seem very sound and flexible.

MBP is back already and working! Gotta say thanks to all at Mactivate as they fastracked the repair due to the fact I needed it badly in time for the weekend
