Toyota Corolla flodded

In the last week my car (toyota corolla 2001 1.4) became flodded. The driver side and the back seat on drivers side is saturated with water. I checked the door seals and found no problem with them. I took it to my local garage and there are in the process of drying out the car. The car was only out on one journey in the week and did not trael to a flood. Has anyone else ever had something like this happen to their car and what was the cause. The car is in pretty good nick just passing NCT (11/11/09). Would something have leaked in the car and caused this problem thanks for your replys

There could be a seal or drainage problem somewhere in the car. Is there a sunroof?
My friend has a rusty old '92 Civic and the rear seats and floor always get damp after rain. Wouldn't expect the same with a much newer car though...

There is no sunroof but I have a feeling that there maybe a burst waterpipe in the car somewhere or that the drain for the wipers under the windscreen is blocked and the water is getting into the car by someway thanks for your reply

Check the spare wheel well, is it full of water?

The only water pipes will be in the coolant system, which are also connected to the heater matrix (probably somewhere behind the dashboard). If there's a leak somewhere in that there'll be a loss of coolant, and it'll look/smell funny as there's anti-freeze in it. I don't think this could make the back seats wet.

You said the back seat? If the back seat is wet, then it must be coming in from a height. Was a window left open; any kids that might have spilt a drink (or their bladder)?

Door seals are difficult to determine if they are leaking or not, without actually seeing the water coming in (unless it's a car that is known to have this problem, like the Seat Leon, c.2001-2003).

Why don't you dry it off as best you can and sit inside while someone uses a hose on the car and see if you can see it leaking, make sure you try all angles not just the front/side.
Water can travel a long distance, check the area under the window to make sure it is not filled with leaves/gravel blocking the drain holes.

Sprinkle talcum powder alond all the door frame / seals. If its coming in there it will leave a trail.
