    Hi Guys

My wife's iphone was stolen at a gig recently and we have contacted the gardai as per insurance companies instructions and contacted o2. I know we have to pay €35 euro excess for insurance on iphone and we have changed all email/itunes passwords etc. Is there anything else we should be aware of?

I hope this may be of use in the future: if you use your iPhone with Outlook or MobileMe, you can remotely wipe and disable it, and if you're using MobileM ou can even track its GPS coordinates location so the guards can track it down to within a few meters. I read an article where the owner of a stolen iPhone used Google Earth to track down the exact house it was in.

Changing your email passwords is definitely a good idea. You don't really need to change your iTunes password because the iPhone doesn't store that information. However, if you used Safari on the iPhone to remember the login information for any websites, you should change your passwords there as well.

thanks Matt, never got round to getting mobile me which i think is a great idea. O2 tell us that they have disabled the iphone and it should be useless to whomever has it.

Just a bit of Advise , for future set the Passcode and there is a option if enter wrong code 10 times all data will be wiped. I have that on.

I don't think that's the case, I'm sure restoring the firmware and another few tweaks would bypass that measure.

i was thinking that might be the case if you used jailbreak or pwnage.

I lost an iPhone and found it about 2 weeks later. The phone had 3G signal and the internet could be used but no signal was coming through. No calls or text allowed. I tried jailbreaking and unlocking. Made no difference. Apparently every operator in EU also block the signal if you change sim card.

there is an app on cydia called iProtect. It lets you PIN protect individual apps. Another feature is you can specify a mobile number. If someone gets hold of your phone, and inserts their SIM, it will send a txt to the mobile number you specified, giving you their number. Might be useful if its a billpay number, or registered prepay SIM....

    Exchange, not Outlook.

I thought operators didn't co-operate on EMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) blocking. Basically O2 will only block the EMEI on their network, but a Vodafone user won't have problems. Have things changed?

I think its from country to country. A phone blocked here wont work on any network but will work fine in the UK and Vice Versa!

ok received new iphone but not after some dick in the o2 shop in killarney gave us the wrong information about insurance when they should have directed us back to carphone warehouse to claim thru the correct insurance company. beware of the incompetent!

might be going with a subscription to mobileme and the price of a baseball bat in future.

Just to update, my wife had insurance with Phonecover and Lifeline, so she claimed from Lifeline/CW and received a new iphone which was great, received a letter from Lifeline the other terminating the insurance contract!
    Buyer beware! :(
