Is Pixmania.ie a reliable online shop?

I'm considering buying an Archos 5 off it, as it's cheaper than anywhere else I've looked. Haven't heard too much about Pixmania though, so I'm a little weary?

Anyone bought off it before? Any feedback?

They can be great. But when things go wrong, they go really wrong.

I personally won't use them again.

There's a crap load of threads by unhappy customers here if you want to do a search.

You should take a nap then.

They haven't had a great track-record. Personally, I would look elsewhere first and wouldn't mind paying a little more.

Hmm, oh dear. Any online shops you would recommend?

There have been a lot of posts from unhappy customers here on boards.

It is worth remembering though that unsatisfied customers are more likely to complain. There may well also be lots of satisfied Pixmania customers.

I don't know how Amazon.co.uk compare in pricing to Pixmania, but you can avail of their free delivery offer as you would be spending over E25 - and they have good customer service.

Thread moved to Online Buying and Auctions as it is not a direct Consumer Issue.

I've used them in the past without any problems, nice and cheep as long as you make sure to weed out all the bullsh1t extras that they try to tack on before you confirm the sale.

    postage was extremely prompt.

I would say the percentage of bad experiences are much much less than the good experiences, but if something does go wrong, you can expect no end to the troubles. Ask yourself, is it worth taking the chance?

I bought 2 satnavs from Pix, on separate occasions, and neither has had a problem. Both arrived pretty quickly too. I have also read the horror stories of when things don't go so well, and it does put me off recommending them, or using them again, but I'm not looking for anything right now anyway.

I wouldn't go buying anything large in size, or cost. But for small and/or cheap, I'd consider them.

I used them without a problem, but they have a lot of bad reviews if you do a search.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

I have had no trouble, I have read the bad reviews and would still use them again.

With Pixmania you're taking a risk. Basically the risk is that your product will arrive in one piece or as advertised. If it does your flying. If not you have to deal with Customer Services which is so bad it will put years on you.

After months of fruitless emails (most of which were ignored) I had to email the CEO of their parent company and within the day had a North European supervisor on the phone apologising and things were sorted. The fact that I had to go that far was extremely stressful and frustrating.

I've used them many times and have nothing but praise for them. I once got the wrong item posted, emailed them, the next day it was picked up by dhl and i had the right one a couple of days later.

I've also just used them and had no problem at all. The product I bought works perfectly and there was no damage to the box like some other suppliers have sent me previously. Delivery was quick too and their prices are great!

Pixmania also allow sellers to sell on their site using their Marketplace, PixPlace so if you're in any doubt you can buy from the seller because they will be responsible for shipping the goods and the customer services rather than Pixmania

I just bought the scanner I saw on the Late Late on Friday from a seller rather than Pix Retail because its a cheaper price

I have had nothing but problems with pixmania. I ordered a portable hard drive and it was not delivered so i tried to cancel it. But all they gave me was bull about investigations with the carrier and it would take up to 21 days and i have to send a signed statement and an ID card for them to refund me. I never heard the like of it in all my years buying online. Stay well clear.

Well bobt if you keep having problems with them from going through the normal channels go straight to the top. I emailed the CEO of their parent company and the problem was pretty much sorted within a day.

It seems everybody has a different story to tell. I am one of the lucky ones, having spent over 3 grand with them in the last 18 months touch wood I have never had a problem but I have never had to use their customer service. Only one little bug, electronic devices come with a euro plug although an adaptor is normally provided.

remember, that when soemthing breaks etc many online places will send you back to the manufacturer i.e sony laptop to vaio customer care etc. I bought a 42" samsung plasma and logitech z5500 speakers off pixmania about 2 months ago.

Something happened the speakers so instead of ringing pixmania I contacted logitech straught off, they went through a few things and said they were going to replace it, and just asked where i had bought them. I got a brand new set of logitech speakers by courier the following week.

I have used them a few times and are very cheap, would have no problem ordering off them again. just remember when something breaks instead of trying to bother with the online retailers customer care go straight to the manufacturer.

highly recommned logitech's customer care by the way :)

As others have said, great if all is ok, your worst nightmare if it goes wrong and you have to deal with Customer Services.

    OH FFS :/

just got lcd monitor of them

i got pissed that 24-48 hours delivery which was 4 days [thats why i paid extra tenner to get it quick] but f**k it

i know thats a manufacturer fault [theres no response from buttons on front display of my monitor] but to get the whole thing sorted it may take UP TO 3 MONTHS

contacting them via email is a pain in the arse

this is the last time i bought of them

i`ll try to contact irish samsung service in dublin to get whole thing sorted

    Very handy thread guys,

I was looking around for a netbook and found that once you had added the VAT and the postage that you could get the same Samsung N150 from Peats for just €15 extra... with the comfort of local support and a free carrycase depending on the salesmans mood I was more than happy to pay the €15... As well as getting it handed straight to you :D

    ...Buy Irish!! ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,713 ✭✭✭✭jor el

VAT is included in all Pixmania prices, so there's nothing to add.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 lasairchoille

The v.a.t. WAS added afterwards in my transaction, one advertised price, and then extra costs added on once I got to step two and three. Fact.

Not worth the hassle and only good value for the small few it works out for from what I can see.

What was the item? everything I see on the site includes VAT already, the things added on are postage, "zen engagement", extended warranties, these can be deselected so you should be only paying postage.

You were on pixmania.ie right? I expect if you went to other pixmania sites it might take your order but charge the price on the .ie site, as they have to pay Irish VAT.

All Pixmania prices are displayed inclusive of VAT, fact, unless you go to the business site, pixmania-pro.com, in which case prices do not include VAT.

Their prices are often quite a lot cheaper than you pay in the shops here, and there's no hassle involved in ordering from them. The real trouble will come if you have to return something, or if something goes wrong with your order. I tend to avoid Pixmania for this very reason.

Well I'm sorry me aul flower but over this minor point we differ... does it really matter anyway?!
PS: None of what I posted was made up, and I have nothing against pixmania, I just wouldn't use them. This is my last response to this.

And the difference in price was only €15!!!!!! :P

Yes, it does matter. I cannot see anything listed without VAT and neither can jor el, so it would be of benefit to warn other posters reading this about what the charges really were. My guess is that it was the "Zen engagement" and/or extended warranty which was automatically applied. This has to be deselected.

This is similar to amazon where you must specifically select free postage at checkout.

I've bought plenty of stuff from pixmania. i.e. projector, screen, laptop bag, camera, satnav and even a mini laptop found them great value and never had any hassle except for the camera manual was mainly in French. But one phone call later they told me where to download the English version

Why do people keep recommending amazon, when they do not deliver TV's to Ireland????

Because they don't just sell tvs?

Whoops. My bad.....was reading 2 different threads at once and got confused. The other one was talking abut buying Tv's online :o

Speaking of amazon, this excellent search tool was posted in bargain alerts.

Don't just look at the links, go down a bit further and you can customise your department & discount range

As has been repeated in this thread many times... of course there are no problems when you buy goods that arrive complete and undamaged. It's when you have a problem and need to deal with their comical customer support that you start having problems. So basically it's a risk you're taking.

Well i gotta say i was impressed with Pixmanias service. I ordered a 32" HDTV last Tuesday at 4.30 pm and it arrived Friday morning, hassle free.

Like most online retailers, they show their worth when something goes wrong.

I ordered a laptop off pixmania, and was delivered a desktop, with no monitor. It was torture dealing with them trying to get it sorted out.

Eventually, I got a full refund, but I was ringing them daily(international calls at my own expense) for a period of weeks. If they responded to emails it was just auto-reply nonsense.

I'll never buy anything from them again.

I wish my problems had only lasted weeks, it took me 6 months to get a refund off them!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 Namka

I ordered two external drives from them, and paid extra for express delivery 24-28hrs. 4 days later nothing, I got in touch and was told they dont even have them in stock. I checked the website again and they are still listed as in stock!
I wont ever ever use them again and I advise anyone to stay well clear.
