    Hoping someone can help. I know there was a similar thread but I am not with IBB. My supplier is BBNet. I have no issues connecting my laptop or any other device to the router.

    When I first got the PS3 I connected no problem but almost the very next day I have only been able to connect every now and then and usually I end up getting connection failed.

    I have tried assigning a static IP address to the PS3 but that does not work either. 8018013D error

    Any help is appreciated :)

    Here's my setup:

    PS3:
    Settings -> Network Settings -> Internet Connection Settings -> Press OK

    Select a setting method -> Custom

    Select a connection method -> Wireless

    WLAN SettingS -> Enter Manually

    SSID -> Wireless Network Name

    WLAN Security Setting -> Mine is WPA

    WPA Key -> Enter password

    IP Address Setting -> Manual
    IP Address -> 192.168.1.250 (you can change 250 to any number you like 1-254 (maybe 255) but it's recommended that it's set to a high number to avoid clashes, 250 is a bit extreme)
    Subnet Mask -> 255.255.255.0
    Default Router -> 192.168.1.1
    Primary DNS -> 89.101.160.4
    Secondary DNS -> 89.101.160.5 (both of these are for NTL, you'll have to find out what yours should be)

    MTU -> Manual

    MTU -> 1500 (Think this is the same for everyone)

    Proxy Server -> Do not use

    UPnP -> Enable

    Press x

    Test Connection

    Hopefully you'll get NAT Type 2

    Router:

    Internet IP Address -> Get Dynamically From ISP

    Domain Name Server (DNS) Address -> Use These DNS Servers ->
    Primary DNS -> 89.101.160.4
    Secondary DNS -> 89.101.160.5

    UPnP -> On

    Cheeers for the reply jason. I put in a static IP, subnet and the primary and secondary DNS from my provider and ip address & connect to internter was a success but connecting to PSN failed :(

    Lots of things can be causing issues.
    The fact that it worked first time, and then has issues every since kinda hints to uPNP issues. Have seen this with some routers where the ports don't free up, and a new IP address on the PS3 the next time you boot causes issues.
    Have you tried reseting the router, the powering up PS3? Does it work everytime doing this?
    Do you have the necessary ports forwarded?
    Which router are you using? (some routers are terrible for upnp)
    What does the network test on PS3 give you for NAT and upnp?

    If UPnP is working properly, there is no need to forward ports.

    I remember having problems before until I did a firmware update on the router, could be worth looking at!

    Ideally - yes...
    BUT there are so many shoddy routers on the market. Have seen some netgears and belkins have issues if the PSN ports aren't forwarded first - then the upnp works for the others...
    I just dumped a lot of Qs so we can try and see where "Keano A Legend" is havign issues.

    And so the issue rears its ugly head.

    When I do connection test I get obtain IP address success every now and then but the rest fail all of the time!

    Try a firmware upgrade on the router.

    EDIT: Here's a link, need to enter your model number.

    I finally got it sorted. I had to contact the router manufacturer - Linksys. They gave me a list of ports to forward and I also had to disable UPnP on the router and the PS3.

    Cool, that's good. Pity you couldn't get the UPnP working though, very handy!

    Does that mean I wont be able to use my PS3 media server?

    Edit: Just Googled it myself. :( I still prefer to able to play games online so its a sacrifice I have to make.

    Can you not use the Media Server? I'm sure you're happy for now as I was when I got mine working by forwarding ports but, it does become annoying when you have to do it for everything and different ports for different games too!

    I'd leave it for now if you're happy enough but, there must be a way to get UPnP working.

    The linksys guy said nothing about different games, just that the PS3 had to have certain ports forwarded.

    I have not tried my Media Server but from what I was reading I thought it worked via UPnP??

    As far as I know, certain games suggest opening certain ports.

    I just plug my external into the PS3, never used the media server.
