I currently have 4 different zappers and it does my head in.

I highly recommend Logitech Harmony Remotes to replace all your remotes with one.

The problem with mutiple units to control with one unit is the fact that the zapper will be controlling the wrong piece of kit, and instead of changing channel on the sat, say, you change from sat to TV, and also change channel of that.

With muliple zappers, there is multiple chances of losing them under the papers, books, table, down the back of the sofa. With one-for-all type zapper, it is a lot of trouble to program, not all functions are catered for, and it is difficult to know which unit it is set for at any particular time.

I am waiting for a TV that has DVB-T2/MPEG4 and FreeSAT built in with a unified EPG. It should also have PVR functionality. And all for under €1,000.

I can dream that it will be here before Christmas, but I can wait for a while longer.

Thats the great thing about a logitech Harmony remote, it does all that you look for, they have a LCD screen that tells you what device your controlling, it works in an activity mode whereby if you press the button to watch Satellite, it will switch the TV to the input that the satellite is on and then the buttons on the remote controls the satellite box. you can also infinately change the buttons around for each activity, e.g. for freesat installs I have the an LCD button for each of the 4 Irish terrestrial stations, so when they are in Freesat mode the just have to press 1 button to go to a terrestrial station, and one button to go back to satellite. and basic ones can now be picked up for under €20 on EBAY.

I only say this because when I go off topic the mods seem allot quicker to post about it.

Point taken. If you wanna talk about remote controls, start a thread in either Broadcasting, Television, or (if they're super-cool remote controls) Gadgets.

This thead's for talking about OneVision.

Sorry for taking the One Vision thread OT.

I have a Harmony 885 and love it too. One thing to be careful of is many of them, including the Harmony One don’t have the TVID colour buttons (Red, Yellow, Green, Blue) that you use so frequently with Sky Digital. You can still programme other buttons as TVID buttons but I prefer having them in the same place as on the original Sky remote.

Great benefit for me is switching between inputs on the TV automatically when you choose the device you want to watch. I can’t understand why automatic switching like scart does was not included in the spec for HDMI?

It is included in the Consumer Electronic Control (CEC) wiring which is a subset of the HDMI specification though it's up to the manufacturer to support it.

Most manufacturers support CEC but pass it off as an enhancement invented by themselves e.g. Philips calls it Easylink, this is a subliminal way of getting you to believe that you should stay with the same brand for both your TV and Blu-Ray player.
