Unfortunately it is a GTi. As well as the mediocre 1.8l there was also an awful 115BHP 2.0l (8 valve I think) unit.

How can VW call it a GTI with 115BHP

Also 115BHP from a 2.0L car, that is a poor return I would have thought a 2.0L should be pumping out ~150BHP for a car of this era.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    That awful aul engine :(

Iirc the first Audi A4 was only available with that engine for a while when launched first

And it's probably one of the reasons the new Beetle flopped that it only had that engine for a while too...

Thats what I call the fake GTI the 1.8t had a red I in the Mk4.
Mk4 wasn't a nice car to drive though.
Mk5 and 6 miles ahead of it.

They really were the the worst gti ever, it must have been that car that force vw to get their act together and to be fair they did with the Mk5

The only Mk4 I'd have is the Anniversary GTI

    Those 2ltrs were dogs

How could VW ever call that a GTi.

Plenty of 2.0 Turbo Diesels which would blow that out of the water.
