Probably safe to say that it hasn't been clocked

    Try the seller for €200

NCT expired 02/08! It's been sitting there and rusting for nearly 2 years, regardless of what he says about the engine being run once a week. Anyway that'd do more harm then good. It probably needs at least €2000 to get it NCT'd and taxed again.

It appears it needs abit of work

I bought one of these couple years back for 1000 EUR.

They are good cars, but you probably have to spend a little to get it NCT'd.

It's a nice drive though. Solid car.

Good E34's are great, bad ones will suck you dry. Lovely car though.

The buyers like you should be ....
even if asking price would be 1 euro you will still try to offer 25 cents. And of course car for 25 cents definitely must have been in PWO and with valid 2 Years NCT + Full Years Tax. :D

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

The E34 is a great car. One of the last overengineered cars - it was well ahead of its time when launched and was still capable when replaced in the mid 90s. I had a late 530i V8 petrol for 4 years and it never gave me any trouble.

2 or 3 years ago there were many E34s on the road still. Not anymore now and unfortunately there is a reason for that. Some good ones are still around, driven and maintained by enthusiasts and these cars will become classics. Most others are like the one in the ad. On / off the road. With some issues. Needing work / money. Basically unloved. Likely to be scrapped within the next few years...

i'm thinkin a nice car if the seller could get it nct'd?

One thread with a few finds would have been enough

Would cost waaay too much to put it throught the NCT. Had a car before and it was like that, NCT forced me to scrap it. Impossible to pass!

How do you know what it needs/how much it would cost to get through the NCT? As for it being "impossible", some people like a challenge and the test is not that tough

The seller says he's had it since new and gives reference to the garages he used to service so maybe it'd be safe to say he has a FSH to go with it?

that could indicate the car has been well looked after and cared for and might not actually need too much work to pass the NCT :)

Do you know the specific car ? Do you know, what work has to be done ?

You can't just say, i had a car similar to that and assume it has the same problems. And even then, I don't believe, that any car, that hasn't been negleted can be hard to pass the NCT.

If it was going to be so easy to put i through the NCT, they why didn't the owner do so to add more value to it? A bit of common since needed here, an 18yr old car not having an NCT since 08?

Maybe because in some areas the waitinglist for an NCT are quite long, it requires to have time to do it and maybe the owner just prefers to sell it on. If it was about getting more money for it, he wouldn't sell it for 500 EUR in the first place.

Not everyone looks for every penny in a car. If NCT was an issue, one can always suggest to do the NCT and based on how much they complain about buy or not buy the car.

But how do you know if hasn't been neglected or how the mechanic are? Its not stated in the ad. It's just been given a few runs to keep it alive.

You can't until you view the car and have a mechanic to have a look at it. Neither can you see, if it's impossible to NCT until you try to NCT it.

All presumptions based on the pictures are pointless. There was a thread here before about an Audi A8 for near to nothing, people making all kinds of assumptions and as it turned out, whoever bought it most likely got a bargain. You can not judge a car, before you've had a look at it in real life !!

Waiting lists are hardly going to be over 1 year. The seller may have only charged €500 just to get rid of it, as it may be off the road for some time. Also if was in such 'good' condition why is it sugested to be used as 'spare parts'

You are AGAIN making assumptions about the sellers intentions. One example could be, that a lot of people looking for a car like that maybe would prefer a 525, 528 or M5 E34, but would love the interiour and other bits of the car.

Anyhow, if you are so concerned, why don't you call the seller and ask him ?

Assumptions . I merely expressed an opinion similiar to ''Maybe because in some areas the waitinglist for an NCT are quite long, it requires to have time to do it and maybe the owner just prefers to sell it on. '' (sellers intentions??)
Also, by now you should have gathered I have no interest in the car never mind ring up about it. I would have taught you'd had rang by now. But nevertheless, I was only giving my opinion about the car from when I first posted. Basically I was telling the OP I won't buy it.

That statement as such would suffice. What I'm trying to say, is that all this could be why he's selling it, and it must be negleted, because he sells it so cheap/doesn't NCT it himself etc. doesn't help the OP a bit.

The only thing that helps the OP is things he can do, so that he doesn't end up with a melon, like:

    - check the car out
    - maybe bring a mechanic friend or somebody knowledgable on cars to check it out with you, when looking at it
    - suggest pay for and NCT the car and buy it based on the outcome. You might have to check with a couple of NCT places, some have cancellations and some actually have openings the next or same day

In general, the E34's are a good car and if there aren't too many issues with it, it'll be fun for a long time.

Yes, all above are good ideas that the OP could do & I'm sure the OP has tought of them already, however making the OP aware, that there could be a big problem in putting it through the NCT (not saying there will be, but it is a possibility!) due to milage, age etc is also a help, as its better to hear it before a purchase. As I said in the first post, it did happen me before buying a car with no NCT & eventually having to get rid of it a few months later.:)

I had an e34, lovely cars, I would buy another if I found a cheap one with reasonable mileage. 194k on that model is steep, you want to get under it and check it all out but it is a cheap car. Don't expect it to pass Nct first time..
