    Hey!

I spent about 5 weeks of my J1 in Huntington Beach, CA this summer just gone.

Plenty of housing, right by a great beach, one of surfing's world capitals, great night life, perfect weather and beautiful people! Not far from LA either, and close to some great attractions. I'd recommend it to any J1er. It was just perfect.

In between I solo travelled to NY, Seattle and Oregon. Solo travel for a few weeks if you can, it teaches you alot about the world and yourself!

I went through USIT, but most of my friends were with SAYIT. Both of them are the same. Not great for help once you get out, but you probably won't need them. I'd say go with whoever offers you the best deal, as from what I saw the level of service was pretty much the same from all three major J1 companies.

Accommodation-wise, no point in giving you our old landlords details, as I'm afraid she won't be taking any J1ers on again. :o However, Craigslist is a great source for finding accommodation (and jobs) and there are plenty of houses available for rent there.

Job-wise, everybody that wanted one got one. The place does a lot of business over the summer with surf festivals and the like, so bars and shops and ice-cream parlors are bound to give you a job. The Irish students have a good reputation for being reliable and fun there, so employers are happy to let you work for the summer. Check out the Kite Connection, the Pedicabs company, and cafes/bars on Main St. They all employer J1ers.
