We were robbed!

I'm living in Brisbane at the moment and got a text from my mum in Dublin that just said 'We were robbed!' Naturally I panicked and called them up breathless to find out the extent of the damage. Much confusion ensued as they didn't seem to remember being robbed. It turned out that my mum's finger had slipped while texting me about the results of a certain sporting event that shall go unnamed and that need not be discussed here.

Has anyone else has gotten a major shock about something that turned out to be a complete false alarm?

My Mum told me a year ago that my beloved dog who I've had since childhood had died......turns out she wasn't dead, my mother just thought it would be "funny" to see my reaction.
I think false alarms like that make you appreciate things all the more.

My parents also sent me a text "We were robbed!", turned out it was a typo and should have read "We were raped!" Much LOLZ followed.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who got a text from his girlfriend who said she was in the doctors with her sister getting a pregnancy test to confirm. He couldnt get through to her for hours and was thinking he was soon to be a daddy. Turns out it was the girlfriends sister that was getting the test.

Your parents joke about raping? Must be one of those young-and-hip types. :P

A friends girlfriend was in hospital down the country, it was fairly serious and she was in for a good while. The friend came back up home and she took a turn for the worse. The sister was texting him every so often with updates. Then he got a message saying "she's gone".
The sister was saying she's gone into surgery but sent the message before it was finished. In the 30 seconds between getting the text message and the sister phoning to correct her mistake, he was devastated. Really felt for him after hearing what happened. Good news was she pulled through.

I really meant that, fair play.

I could think of better suited words and not print them.

    You did the same.

I was on a football team once and a fella pulled out of playing for us saying his grandmother had died.

Turned out both his grannies were still alive and he ddnt wanna play because his girlfriend was lonely.

A few weeks ago I was looking at my niece's Facebook and saw that she'd written "Not going to school today. My granny died last night". I was in Dublin at the time and my mother lives in Atlanta. I got on the phone immediately but my mother's phone kept ringing out. I eventually got through to my mother after two anxious hours and fortunately (for me, anyway) it was my brother-in-law's mother who had died.

Yes, I thought this thread was about The Match and then it wasn't.

Was looking forward to some damn fine sexy backseat modding too as it goes .. ;)

One of my best friend's was up in court a few years ago for fines and public disorder charges.

He rang each and every one of us saying that he got 6 months in Cavan, we all sat in a friend's house devasted before he suddenly pops in the door laughing.

After 10 seconds of shock / relief we all promptly thumped the shìte out of him.

He did that to us twice.

And we gave him an even bigger beating that 2nd time.

I know how you felt, I struggle to even drive through Cavan, don't mind six months.
