But I'd also say you need to be practising for real to learn to be effective.

Combatives Street Fight Hand to Hand Combat Manuals Self Defense

It is a MUST HAVE to study the original manuals used for WWII hand to hand do or die fighting.

W.E. Fairbairns Silent Killing Combatives System taught in WWII,
is just as relevant today, just leave out the "kill" moves please!
The others I mention are variations on Fairbairns works.

baton, garrot & CQB point shooting. Still in use by U.S. Marines up to 1992 officially, but unofficially used by many training officers. very transferable to the street fight self defense.

Combatives US Army Modern Fighting Hand to Hand Combat Manual
Present day, as of now, US Army Combatives Manual.
This is weak compared to the lethal brutality in Get Tough or Kill or Get Killed.

Also recommend published originally re Knife Fighting in 1950s and still a classic today is
COLD STEEL by Styres.

And if you can get your hands on it, I am looking myself for this or
ebook of it or scan of it even.

Mix that with Geoff Thompson and train few times month animal day all out full on... your self defense skills will be excellent.
