    hi,
I have a tricity bendix dishwasher model tds 200 thats continously pumps out water to drain. everything is pumped out and even when i fill it with a saucepan of water it pumps that out too. There is an error code coming up which is start light flashing and end light flashing twice, in the manual it says this code meand the drain is blocked but its not. Does anyone know the method this machine uses to detect water in the bottom of the dishwasher?
    Phil.

I dont know about this particular model but something simular happened to mine before. What i found was water had got through the bottom of my dishwasher and was tripping a switch and causeing it to drain. Can you take the dishwasher out open the back and see if there is water in the bottom(Obv not inside the dishwasher box)

Dry it with a cloth then use a hairdryer to dry it the rest of the way.

    Best of luck

thanks for the reply Joey, I stripped the whole thing down, found it to be bone dry underneath. I was looking for the methid of which it uses for detecting water to be pumped out. i found the stat for the heat of the water but i couldnt see anything directly connected to the base of the washer to detect water. but i did find the two switches on the right hand side of the mahicne with a pipe coming out of each one to the bottom of the dishwasher, one is connectted to the heater for heating the water and the other has two wires going to the controller, Ive tried shorting this swithc and open circuiting it but it made no difference, the pump just keeps pumping out until eventually the fault led comes up and says the drain is blocked (which of course it isnt). Anybody got any experience with the two switches im talking about?

There'll be a float operated switch right at the base of your dishwasher where all the works are. It's purpose is to pick up any leaks/overflows that might be happening in the machine - since all water will find it's way down there.

On my own machine and probably yours, the float was a piece of polystyrene surrounded by a plastic housing (although you could see the polystyrene in the housing) Water gets down there, the lightweight polystyrene float rises up and clicks a switch, turning the machine into pump out only mode.

The water will evaporate if you leave it a few days or you can daub it out with some kitchen towel (isolating the machine electrically first). Check that the float has settled by back down by gently lifting and dropping it (with a tip of a knife placed under it). You should here the switch click in and out as the float goes up and down

You can also see if simply tipping the machine forward/back will do the trick - the water in the float area is displaced and wets the surrounding area and doesn't return to the float area fully - just enough to let the float sink and reset the switch.

On my own machine, a dinner plate placed in the "wrong" place re-directed spraying water into the overflow pipe area (small diameter tubing at the bottom of the door). Water from there goes down to the base of the machine where the float picks up there's a problem. There could be some other issue with yours allowing water to get down to the float - but more likely something simple than something broken. Check the door seals too - fitted as they should be - especially down the sides near the bottom.
