Deciding relevance of posts

On the thread that has been locked by the mods, the OP wrote (the highlighting is mine): Hi, i just started teaching in a VEC. I have a degree but no dip done. I thought i would be ok but the more Im there the worse I feel. I am just covering for another teacher who is out for unavoidable reasons and I cant wait for her to get back! Im stressed trying to deal with preparing classes for students who acually dont want to be taught until their 'real teacher' gets back.
Is anybody else teaching this year with no dip? Any advice? Does teaching get easier?

JaneyBabe, the moderator wrote a quite bizarre reply: "Whether or not the OP has a PGDE or not is irrelevant. She is working as a teacher and is having some trouble. She came her for advice. If you wish to discuss teaching without a PGDE then start a new thread. Back on topic please."

The relevance of the OP not having the PGDE was quite clearly established by the OP in the opening post. To say that one of the two primary issues raised (a plea for advice was indeed the other) was irrelevant to the topic is absurd.

First question - why has this moderator tried to stymie any discussion of unqualified (that is to say utterly untrained at any level) teachers for the second time in a few weeks? Second question - is closing a thread that has gone 'off-topic' only on the basis of such a desperately flawed dictat as that issued by this moderator not waay over the top?

If you have issues with the way a moderator deals with a post/thread, the first step is to report it, not to start a fresh thread.

If you get no satisfaction, a PM to all moderators concerned should achieve a result, or at least debate.

If that does not provide a satisfactory result, you can contact the Category Moderators. In this case, that is both myself and Red Alert.

Then, and only then, can you start a Help Desk thread.

Starting a thread in the forum in question, or questioning a moderator's actions on thread is simply not acceptable and not the way we do things around here.

Moderators/CMods/Admins are answerable to the wider community, there are a series of balances an checks in place to ensure this. I have outlined these above.

Please follow these procedures before starting a new thread.
