    Hi,

I am running 2 music programmes together and getting stuttering sounds from one and if I increase the buffer size to combat it causes a latency problem.

    These are my laptop specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium, SP 1, Hewlett Packard, HP G60 Notebook, Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00 GHz, 3.00GB RAM, 32 bit OS

I was wondering if upgrading to a better processer would help and if so can anyone recommend one?

    Thanks

What HDD are you running? Size and speed, also model if possible.

Tbh, I don't think upgrading the CPU will solve your problem. Its likely to be something else. Maybe an I/O problem, or maybe another program stealing resources (like an AV or something). Or possibly even Windows itself, have you looked at disabling things like Indexing, Superfetch etc.

There is also a Music Production section on boards, and they may be familiar with the apps you are using, or be able to troubleshoot it more specifically.

in Device Manager, Disk Drive is:

    WDC WD1600BEVT - 60ZCT0 ATA Device

Is that what you mean by what type of HDD am I running?
    it's 139GB space too.

I've just turned in the process of turning off indexing and I've turned off UAC (and windows defender previously iirc) I've turned off all unnecessary startup programs as well.

I know about the music production forum and if someone tells me to get a MAC once more I'll scream (If I could afford one I'd get one :D )

Upgrading a laptop CPU is going to be incredibly difficult if not virtually impossible. Typically you're stuck with whatever you get.

You also cant even be sure the CPU is your bottleneck: Download this. I run it religiously.

One of the default Fields is "Bottleneck" ;) and lets you know when one of your components is crapping out and slowing your **** down. Download the portable version if you just want to give it a try.

Some audio programs can be very heavy though. OP I suggest doing a bit more research into the programs you're running, it can be anything from a simple dislike of your OS to not liking the hardware itself.
