Do petitions ever work?

    As the title says, is there any need for them? I remember signing many in my relatively short lifetime but they never seem to do anything for the cause they are supporting. All it seems to be is a letter stating "We are pissed off with your decision, signed..................."

    The most recent one was on the counter of my local off-license, with the intention of extending the 10pm closing time back to 11pm. I signed a load of peoples names, I knew they'd support it but no joy:(

    The short answer: No. The government* work off their own agenda, not the wants of the general public

    *Can be substituted with other groups such as FIFA and facebook :confused:

    Petitions are useless.

    People think they are getting actively involved in something, but in reality all they are doing is sitting on their arses and signing a piece of paper.

    petitions = meh.......online petitions = facepalm

    because most of the time they are just a list of email addresses.....which means anyone could have made hundreds of them

    Online petitions, via email, go straight to the trash can - I can never trust an email that requires me to pass it on.

    So the next time someone asks me to sign one, I can tell them where to go!?:D

    No they dont. I have a petition with 20,000+ names which i handed to a minister and he handed it to his assistant and said will you deal with that.
