Can anyone recommend a good organisation for doing contract work in the UK through? Am I best off using an Irish based company as it could make my flights and accomodation over there expensable from a tax point of view?

I keep coming across CXC but there seems to be some horror stories of malpractice on their part floating around, can anyone point me in the direction of a better company?

CXC in the UK are actually GOOD. It's their Irish operation that is pretty poor.

As for expensing flights...if you're going to be living in the UK you can't expense flights home to Ireland for a trip home unfortunately. Not 100% but I don't think you can expense your rent either. It's much harder to expense stuff in the UK.

Well, it's a very short term contract and I won't be full-time on-site (i.e. will be working from home for parts of it) so thought the best thing would be to work through an Irish umbrella company...

CXC's site certainly says that this is possible.

I wouldn't recommend CXC Ireland. There's a lot of umbrella co's out there, hopefully someone can recommend another :)

It would be possible to claim your travel & accomodation expenses if you qualify as an employee of an Irish company on an short-term overseas assignment. If that is the case an Irish company would be the better option for you.

However, you need to ensure compliance with uk Revenue aswell as Irish, and if you're using a UK agency you may be required to use a UK company as many of them won't deal with anything other than a UK company to ensure compliance with HMRC regulations such as IR35 & MSC Legislation.

It's difficult to say what the best option is for you without knowing the full details. If you want to contact me directly I'd be happy to discuss it in more detail
