I was quoted quite a lot of money for this opperation, ie €400 + €400 upper and lower. What dose it exactly mean and involve? I was also quoted 2 quantities for upper and 2 quantities for lower? The job I am in for is two three root canal molars but thought the charge for the above was excessive.

    Cheers.

its basically a deep cleaning, often carried out by a periodontist. can also be called root planing, its where plaque and calculus above and below the gum line needs to be removed by scaling. Price sounds about average to me!

Gingival Curettage is an outmoded treatment.

Root Surface Instrumentation (non-surgical and surgical) are recognised and necessarytreatments for periodontitis (Gum Disease).

I don' know how the job is quantified but it took less than an hour with ultrasonics and scraping. Thats €800 to clean my teeth.

I got the job completed in one visit as opposed to the suggested two visits. When one compares this job to other time consuming dental treatments such as surgical extraction and root canal it seems very expensive. It has thought me a lesson to look after my teeth in future. :p

I know it is crazy expensive, I assume it was a general dentist that carried out the treatment. It might help you to fell a little better knowing to see a specialist you would have paid in the region of 200 euro for a consultation and approx 300-400 per quadrant of the mouth!! Hopefully its an expensive lesson and you wont have to fork out for dentures in years to come, or implants as a result!
