School water supply

I heard somewhere that the school must have an adequate supply of water for its pupils. My school has around 1200 pupils in total and recently a pumping station has been shut off because of a breach, and there has been radio announcements telling people to drink bottled water.

Is there any truth in needing an adequate water supply for a public school?

Most buildings will have a 24 hour supply for toilets etc., but yes, drinking water may be an issue.
