Has anyone used 3ds for 3D game programming, especially for the design of online games? Compared to other 3D programmes, how difficult or user-friendly is it? Strengths or limitations of 3ds for 3D?

I'm in the process of learning HTML, XML, Java 6.0, and VB2008, have played a bit with CS4, but really lack the knowledge and experience to seriously begin the programming of online games. Would learning 3ds be useful, or would you recommend other programmes or languages?

Ideally, I would like to learn game programming that could be run on a file server and accessed online by netbooks with small Atom CPUs that lack a dedicated GPU, yet still have a high level of sophistication in design and development. Impossible dream?
