Fine Gael call for probe into where the registration fee goes

Surprised no-one has posted this already. Fine Gael has called for an investigation into whether the registration fee is actually going towards student services, as it's supposed to, or whether it's actually being used for other stuff (as a lot of people suspect).

According to the Irish Times, the SU looked at the college accounts and found that just one third of the registration fee is being used on student services. They then sent a copy of this to the Oireachtas Education committee (Bit of a genius idea imho. If they'd just done a press release, it'd have been pretty much ignored. Instead, it's made the national media).

College has always been vague/dodgy/downright aggressive when pressed for details on what exactly it does with the money. Good to see the Union putting a bit of pressure on over this. Also, I'm not usually a fan but fair play to FG too. It'll be interesting to see if the Comptroller and Auditor General actually pushes ahead with an investigation.

Good to hear the SU's role in this. I doubt anything big will come of this though.
