    Here's another sauce: http://kotaku.com/5408390/the-playstation-network-by-the-numbers

I dunno what to make of it really. If you're paying for the service you get atm then I wouldn't be happy, however, if they were going to make PSN alot better with the money I'd be more understanding. STill though, I'd rather not pay because I feel the service right now is quite good considering it's free.

This could be a turning point , although it could lose them some fans who love the free online

    Could be something like...

PSN as is now remains free.

Subscription service would be that + xx hours of movie/tv downloads etc. ?

I know what this is, sort of.

First part is a revamp of that piece of crap "Qore" thing for Americans. Basically a digital magazine but with early beta codes and demo stuff.

Second is subscriptions for comic books (now added to PSP as of today) and stuff akin to this.

Third (this one is the guess) is MMO style games like the Agency.

For the comics thing I thought you needed to be a subscriber to the Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited thing, nothing to do with Sony, doubt they'd ask for another subscription fee, but I might be wrong. MS do it with Live and Netflix. EDIT: Just looked into the comic thing and saw they sold individual comics too.

The MMO thing sounds like a solid guess.

Hope we hear some more of these subscription based services soon, something completly bonkers would be great.

Yeah because they aren't making enough money off kids buying virtual clothes and items in PS Home....One of the selling points for the PS3 was the fact that it had free on-line play/services without a subscription fee. Taking this back would be like biting the hand that feeds you.

Profits all well and good until theres controversy about the method used and the fact that the company rakes in billions a year. Oh sure times are hard...

Its moar than likely a premium Video subscription service.

I don't think it would be. They just announced Netflix for the system and they're working on an update to work it into the xmb so you don't need the disc. Why waste time and money making it so Netflix will work on their system just to release a video based subscription service themselves. Of course that's just for the US though.

If it is that though, I can see their rates where Netflix is available being competitive and everywhere else getting ripped off for it.

Ever since the 6.10 update for PSP there have been rumours of a PSP rental service (games now have an 'Expires On:' category even though there are no games with expiry dates currently). Sony also had a survey a while ago in the US asking if people would be interested in a subscription based game rental service for the PSP. I'm sure we all know that these Sony surveys can actually be quite a reliable source of info, seeing as how that was how the God of War Collection for PS3 came about. My bet would be something like this. Future Publishing (OPM) were supposed to be launching a 'Qore' type service here also which would require a subscription.

I seriously doubt they're introducing a pay-to-play system like the 360, and pretty much every games website and blog I read thinks so too, bar Eurogamer . (No surprise there when they'll troll for hits.)

It bothers me that the thread title says 'your' instead of 'you're'.
