I am currently building a house at present, with the hope of putting in a games room or at least allow for it. I am also looking to put in a split level decking area with a lowered seating area, with steps down to it from the decked area. I am looking for ideas that are accompanied by pictures or sketches of peoples own designs if they are willing to share them. Every part of the house with quirky design ideas. nice lighting effect, gardens, kitchens, bathrooms would be great. Also nice natural stone pictures of walls and of the stone on the houses. I hope that we could get a nice gallery together like other forums that people can take there own design ideas and work it to suit them. Also feel free to post pictures of rooms from new builds to old builds, and to ask for ideas that could make that room extra special, or indeed your whole house. This forum is really for people that want to put in something different in their house to give it the WOW factor, so that when people walk into your front hall, they are amazed by what they see. As well as giving myself ideas I hope that this can inspire other people to.

    Many Thanks.

What are you looking for in the games room, I could likely help a lot there, depending on what your definition of a games room is.

    Hey there,

That's good, that's my idea too. Sometimes peopel have a "gamesroom" that is essentially a childs playroom.

I don't have one currently (as I don't have a house), but I have designed a few, or at least part of (including some furniture - by far the best bit). And to be honest its easily my favourite room in a house, or any buildign to work on.

If you want to do it right, be prepared to spend a little extra on furnishings. Compared to the overall cost of the house, its nothing, but a couple of extra euro will change it from tacky to classy.

For example, a cheap poker or pool table will cost 100 euro. The know the fold out, wobbly looking things. A few more hundred and you can get a professional quaility one. I'm not a huge fan of airhockey tables, as I've never seen one at a reasonable price, that wasn't childrens quaility. An arcade closing down maybe.

What kind of table are you after? and examples?

Bean bags are a must in my opinion. I seen alot, form ones you get at the market for 30euro (that leak tiny white balls everywhere), to 300euro budda bags.
And the budda bag gets the extra cash everytime. There are cheaper versions, that are jsut as robust and won't leak, but the finishing material is a little rough. Buddabags are like velvet. If you know somebody handy with a sewing maching, a good option would be to source good material and foam (not balls) from a wholesaler, and make your own. Cost would be about 1/3

I am looking at using an upstairs room (size 5.7m x 3.05m) as a games room....two questions:

    1) is this big enough for a pool table?
    2) has anyone very heard of a pool table going upstairs as opposed to the usual downstairs location? no danger of it falling through the ceiling...i havent decided on timberframe or block yet...should that make a difference in my decision?

    thanks!

The room is big enough to fit the table but not big enough to play pool in. We have often designed games rooms to go upstairs and generally shouldn't be an issue once the structure is designed to take it.

I've PM'd you a link to a pool table suppliers website that explains the min. room dimensions for a pool table based on the cue length being used.

It confirms what PUT has stated.
