Hi, I've been on Job Seekers Benefit (JSB) since finishing college in June and I've been offered promotions work for 4 weeks coming up to christmas. It's 9 - 5, 5 days a week. I've also just got my medical card in the post.

Do I have to go off JSB for the 4 weeks and then re-apply for JSB again afterwards or am I entitled to remain signed on and forgo my payments for those weeks. Also can I keep my medical card or do I lose it for working for 4 weeks?

Congrats on getting a bit of work on the run up to christmas. I'm on JB and have been working part time. I get a slip each week and mark the days I work. You won't be entitled to anything as you're working 5 days a week.

Don't think you will have to reapply again I think there is a period of 26 weeks but again check that with SW. Think you will just be classified as casual worker

You should give a copy of your medical card to your payroll dept as you will be exempt from paying the income levy part of your wages, means more money for you!

    Good luck

You won't have to reapply as you are only on temporary work and your JSB claim will remain *live* and when work finishes you just continue on as you were.

Remember you can work up to 3 days a week and stil get some payment from sw for those days, its the x's and o's system.

Anyone know if Sunday is still disregarded as a day of work were social welfare is concerned?

Great you got work. In theory your claim remains 'live' but the reality is that it is closed. I know someone who went back for a week to old employer to cover holiday leave. Was told that was fine by SW but when he went back to recommence claim was told that anyone working more than three days has claim closed. It was recommenced smoothly within two weeks but his starting date had changed to be recorded as after that week's work and meant he didn't qualify as eligible for BTEA. Just be aware of implications.
