I was reminded of Maratona last night when watching Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone. It was filmed in the Dolomites.

I did the event a few years ago and thought it was great. Stunning scenery, really challenging (despite being "only" 138kms) as there's very few flat km's in it and really well organised. You can choose from three different distances on the day also. I would fully recommend it to anyone.

Very annoyed not to get in - I thought I read somewhere that the field was supposed to be 50% overseas? I was just about to order my Shwalbe Stelvios!

This DVD looks worthwhile for anyone participating - also check out Mt. Marmolada if your there for a couple of days - site of the Marmolada Massacre on Roche's 1987 Giro win.

I'll make do with skiing the Sella Ronda section in a couple of weeks time - chairlifts just ain't the same as two wheels though.
