    Hi

im just formatted my vista pc and replaced it with version 7 of linux mint.

Seems to be stable enough..although i dont really know what im doing..where can i find basic introduction level tips for this os?

also for avast antivirus for linux there are three versions on the avast home page http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-for-linux-edition.html -which of these is apt for linux mint?

Forget about avast. You don't need it.

Downloading and installing software is done differently than on windows.
99.99% of the software you need is on hosted repositories. You don't have
to go through the process of looking for software on the internet, downloading,
launching an installer and clicking next, next, yes....

You can search for and install the software by clicking the menu and clicking
    system > package manager.

The linux mint user guide is here: http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/stable/7/user-guide/english.pdf

and you can always ask here in this forum.

Also the podcasts on www.mintcast.org can be good.

    In before cable842

So uh, what do you usually do on your computer? Mint is pretty intuitive for most users.

Mint 8 Release Candidate is just out and seems stable enough... but you can do an update to that when it's actually stable though, welcome fellow Minty!

Since Mint is based on Ubuntu the ubuntuforums.org might be helpful with any issues you may get, but there's also mint forums too but witha smaller user base I imagine.
