Blank Screen

    Hi all,

Have a mid 2007 MBP, which I put to sleep earlier.
When I lifted the lid some time later I got nothing and proceeded to force shutdown by using the power button.

Everytime now I reboot, there is no activity on screen or any off the keys etc, though the superdrive and the harddrive both operate also no chime.

I have taken out the ram and also the battery and depressed the power button for over a duration off 30 seconds and still no joy.

    Has anyone any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

could be one of two things. either the graphics card has failed... possibly covered under an extended warranty program. covers 2.2, 2.4 and 2.5 ghz models. or you HDD may have gone... but more likely the first symptom. get it to a repair centre.

    Thank you greentree.

I was assuming that, it is those nvidia chips (8600) again, this is the second time in 12 months where they have fried or failed on me, last one was a vaio.

I bought this second hand and it came with apple care to what I can see, as per entering serial no on website, I didn't get the opportunity to re-register it in my name, will this make any difference?

I'm going to Dublin tommorow, where are the repair centres there or should I just ring up apple in the morning...

    Thanks again.
    Much appreciated.

If it covered under warranty, Applecare or a callback, you ought to contact Apple first to ascertain if it is covered or not as the repair shops that undertake warranty repairs are not in central Dublin. Two of the repair shops (Mactivate and Dectek) are in Dublin 15 and not the handiest places to reach. There is a newly Apple certified repair house in Bluebell called Tyrell; it's handier for the LUAS but still a hike from town. Where do you live?

I'm down here in Tipp and heading up to my mates till Saturday and i'll be out in Parkwest area so the Bluebell house would be the handiest for me, if covered.
I'll give Apple a ring first thing in the morning, I say it is the logicboard and I hope it is covered.

    Ta again all.
