    I am building a (type of)xylophone using metal bars. I want to determine the pitch based on the length, or in other words I want a pitch series of D.F.A,C etc but obviously I need a specific length in order to determine the pitch.

    I have found an equation but I am not really sure how it works, if in fact that is the formula (although I am sure it is correct)

    ωn = (2n + 1)2/9.

    I think N related to the Node (which is a constant of 1 as the metal bar is open at both ends) But I can't find any information on it.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm going to take a guess and say that n is the harmonic and w is the angular frequency.

    w = 2(pi)f where f is the frequency of the sound wave.

    There's no length anywhere so dunno what you'd do about that or if the equation even makes sense.
