JOHANNESBURG: Kaka’s disallowed “goal” on the worldwide stage of the Confederations Cup Final will not change hearts and minds within football’s governing bodies about technological assistance.

Brazil’s outstanding forward in their Cup triumph claimed a goal when, at 2-1 down against the United States, he saw a goal effort beaten out by keeper Tim Howard. One camera angle appeared to show clearly that the ball had crossed the line but other angles were not clear and both referee Martin Hansson and his assistant were unsighted.

Fit to referee in the world cup?

Ehh, it's the referee's job to be in position to make these calls. He wasn't. Nor was he last night.

i can never blame the ref in goal line incidents, for me thats the lino's territory. The ref himself is on the field of play and is almost always going to find it hard to judge of a ball crossed the line in tight cases as he's looking at trying to determine depth, while a lino simply needs to see is it to the right or left of the line, much easier to judge.

Also we should keep in mind that ref didn't give a pen which 99 times out of 100 would have been given. Keeper commits, doesn't reach the ball, player goes down. Even without contact, the attacker pretty much always gets the benefit of the doubt in that situation.
