Having a problem with my 02 fiesta 1.8 diesel turbo.

I was driving along and the power just completely went. No acceleration, changed gears ok but still nothing.
I pulled over and it's as if the fanbelt was turning too quickly and slight vibration thru the car.
So i turned the car off before opening the bonnet.
Started it up again and it was perfect.
Happened twice now in 3 days, Both perfect afterwards.
Car had only done about 3-4 miles from cold on both times.
    Mileage is at 77,000miles

    Thanks for any help

Doesn't sound like a mechanical fault in the gearbox because of the intermediate nature of the power loss. Initially Id check for air leaks, good connection at the air flow meter and the condition of the fuel filter. Have you had it serviced as per spec? You didnt mention whether any engine management light came on, so I'm assuming it didnt, but there could be fault codes generated and stored which would narrow down the search if the problem persists...
