Problem Upgrading Fedora 11 to 12

I have just started experimenting with linux. I ran the upgrade option to upgrade from Fedora 11 to Fedora 12. The system multi boots with 2 Linux and 3 Windows OS's. I had to move the boot options the upgrade generated from where it put them into the menu.lst the system boots from. When I choose the Upgrade from the boot menu the process starts but after asking for the keyboard layout aborts saying it has insufficient disk space.

There is 9.3GB of free space on the partition. There is an adjoining partition I could delete and extend the Fedora partition.

Question is, is the insufficient disk space a bug and so extending the partition would be a waste of time, or does it really need more than 9.3GB of space.

I will go through the Fedora documentation again. In the mean time any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem was not with the large ext4 partition but with the smaller ext3 boot partition. Fedora 12 release notes implied 12 the grub loader could manage an ext4 partition.

Resolved the first problem by removing redundant files from the boot partition. Booting into the upgrade then worked in so far as it completed.

However when trying to boot following the upgrade I get a write Ram disk incomplete
write (17b3 ! =4555) - this might not be exact as it is at top of the screen and the top is missing
error 'Kernal panic - not syncing :VFS Unable to mount root f.s on unknown - block (0,0).

Any ideas while I trawl the documentation.

It would seem upgrading is not a good idea. I tried all the suggestions from the Fedora forum and none worked.

The only reason I tried the upgrade was to avoid the install messing up the existing MBR.

I never store data on any OS partition so a fresh install is not really a problem.
I won't attempt an upgrade again.
