Householders were urged to check their heating systems tonight after inhabitants were found to be choked when the vent in their steam fire was found to be blocked and no alternative outlet could be found.

Block all the draughts in your house to keep out the cold! is what they keep telling us! what they often forget to say is fires need fresh air to work - so do people.

Reminds me of the Americans who were so afraid of being gassed by terrorists, they sealed their home up entirely with gaffer tape.

Oh well, Darwin got another one.

There's an urban myth that states there once was a man who killed himself with gas after eating a large plate of beans and sleeping in a very small room without ventillation. ;)

It was tragic, all those people affected.
If only they'd found a way to let out some of the steam.

Autopsies are expected to show that alcohol had a hand in last nights tragic events.

So is Duncan Stewart. That's how he's never been caught.

Some of us are smart, and thus wear scuba gear 24/7 to prevent general asphyxiation and death by biblical flood.

The vent was opened in the end, the steam released.
No fatalaties, just a few people knocked unconscious but they'll be revived in about a week.
But the family heads went at each other dealing with the crisis.
Now they might be getting divorced and Daddy's talking about leaving the house.:(
