Courier in Dublin without an account?

Hi. I need the services of a courier in Dublin for a once-off (well, twice-off) delivery.

Last time I used a courier service, you had to have a business account set up, but this won't be required again, and I need them for Friday and Monday, so not much time....

Does anyone know of a "pay-as-you-go" courier service?

    Many thanks.

www.irishbikerforum.com or www.biker.ie are good places to look for exactly what you want., or in the motorcycle forum on boards.ie

Rud, I own a courier type company specialising in Dublin - what exactly do you need?

    Hi Barry

I need to get a small package (presentation folder) from Dublin city centre to Blanchardstown on Friday and again from city centre to Blackrock on Monday.

I don't mind driving to Blackrock on Monday but am stuck for time in particular on Friday, so would be great if I could get it couriered. I can pay cash or whatever, but of course would need to be confident that it would arrive, etc...

Do you require clients to set up an account in advance or are one-off jobs of this type possible? If so, what does it cost?

    Thanks

I don't mean to jump in on Barry's pitch! But the other way of doing this if you just need someone to send something in a hurry is to hire a taxi. Ideally for this, you will have someone at the other end to pay the bill, but I've flagged guys down, made a deal with them and sent them on their way before, and the stuff always got to the other end. Be sure to take the taxi driver's plate number and mobile phone number.

Thanks Antoin, but I'm doing this as a favour to friends (amazing coincidence, two people asked me the same favour within an hour or two today!) and I would have to be 100% certain they would get there, so just couldn't leave it to a taxi driver (no offence to taxi drivers, but that's not their job).

I need someone who I can be confident will go into the reception of the two businesses, drop the envelope and get a signature for it - my friends are depending on me to get it there, so couldn't leave any scope for error....

    I appreciate the response :)

Dublin's couriers are excellent ladies and gentlemen, but I do have to warn you, they are not perfect.

If you are sending a courier and it really needs to be there, ask for 'direct'. This means that it will be treated with special reverence and it will be brought straight from your origin to destination, generally by one person. Expect to pay a chunky premium for this service. Barry will put you straight on all this.

Thanks Antoin. How depressing - you pay for a service but have to pay extra if you really want to be sure to be sure....

Unfortunately my time is not that valuable - looks like I'll be making a trip out to Blanch :(

    Hi Rud,

I can do this no problem and you can pay me by Paypal if that suits?

Provided there is no specific time deadlines other than 9-5 I can do it for €50. Signatures received in both drop offs

drop me a mail barry at deliverance dot ie

A taxi will cost half this price and specific time deadlines can be met at no additional cost.

My company can provide this service at a keener rate than previous posts with pod emailed on delivery. Please PM

When I saw this in thread of the day I read it as 'without an accent', I was expecting some racist courier thread.

Thanks to everyone for suggestions and offers - was in a client's office all of yesterday and boards.ie was blocked (!!) so couldn't respond.

In the end I dropped it there myself, was too afraid of not making the early deadline.

Not having much experience of them, I kind of viewed couriers as a magic Star Trek-type teleporting of documents, but of course, there are practical considerations etc...
