    Hello
I have an hons degree (major Sociology and minor Psycholgy), a MA (Psy), a Postgrad Law and a Cert in Training and Development. I would like to go into teaching after 11 years in industry- either primary or secondary. As I understand it I cant do primary teaching because I only have a D1 in Hons Irish. Does anyone know if I would qualify to do a HDip and if so what subjects could I teach given my qulaifications above? I have lectured for nearly 10 years part-time but in psycholgy/HR/Law etc. Thanks

Look up the teaching council, the have a list of what degree qualify you for what subjects. At a guess I would say you are qualified for CSPE, and no school is going to hire someone with just CSPE.
Best bet would be to repeat the leaving and go for primary. Or keep working and do an online degree in some useful arts subjects.

Yeah just repeat leaving cert Irish for the C3. The institute in leeson street do special courses for people seeking the C3 for the PGDE. You can apply for the irish exam through www.examinations.ie . Closing date is sometime in January I think .

Sorry to disappoint you but none of your subjects qualify you to do either primary or secondary straight away. Like another poster said, C.S.P.E at best and this is used as a filler subject in the majority of schools and is taught as an elective in the h.dip for a few weeks/term.
However, if you do your honours Irish you could do a postgrad perhaps for primary in one year or go over to the U.K and do the Irish exam when you return.
To be honest you kind of need to decide which you would prefer as they are both very different jobs/teaching experiences. apart from the ages etc in primary you will be teaching a wide variety of subjects whereas in secondary you will prob teach two!
