How to sell a car...?

I'm looking for some advice on how to go about selling my car. I'm not looking to trade-in. Just offload the thing.

Are online sites such as carbuyersguide, buyandsell or carzone.ie any use. They mostly appear to be full of dealer models and there doesn't seem to be any private sellers on there and i presume there's a reason for that.

Has anyone gone through this process lately and have any advice?

You'll get much better advice in the Motors forum. Moved accordingly.

The two important things when selling a car is price and presentation of the advert.

Price - Do your homework, have a look at similar models for sale on sites to get an idea of what they are asking for them and then undercut the closest private seller. Ignore dealer prices which are asking prices where there is room for discount and they offer a warranty. Keep checking prices every week and adjust your price accordingly so that it stays the cheapest. Consider all decent offers as often people hold out for their asking price, don't get it and end up having the car for months and then letting the car go for less than the intial offer made.

Advert presentation - Get the car valeted and take good quality photos (not with a mobile phone) preferably on a sunny day (if you can find one) and with nice scenery in the background. You want to give a buyer a good first impression, getting them interested enough to ring you is half the battle and once they do it up to you then to get them to come see the car and sell it.

    Best of luck.

    As per a previous thread:

    Price
    Presentation
    Information

NCT, Tax, Service History, Extras, etc.

Put the car on all the free sites you can find, e.g. CBG, Cars Ireland, plus spend €3 putting it on Done Deal, especially if it is a Credit Union money type of car. Failing that fork out €40 and stick it on Carzone too. That said if you get the three points above right it doesn't matter where you advertise once it's a reasonably popular site.

Also if the car is over €10k or 2L it's not gonna go anywhere fast these days unfortunately. What's selling best now is sub €10k Fords, Toyotas, VW's etc.

    gumtree.ie (for free)
    carsireland.ie (for free)
donedeal.ie (3euro on your phone bill)

most of people use these and they are the best.

p.s. just don't forget to double your selling price as everyone will try to offer half of what you're asking even if you ask 1euro. local mentality. :D

    Silly advice!

Certainly give yourself a little wiggle room on your bottom dollar but double it and you have better chances of winning the lotto!
