    According to AA Roadwatch,
From Thursday 19th November, On-Street Parking Charges in Dublin City Centre will be suspended in a designated retail zone, after 2pm every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Also put Dublin in the title, not "town".

I noticed that on South Anne Street last night however the spaces will be taken by staff working in nearby shops.

LOL when did you last park in town ?

Costs from December 2008 are as follows:

    * Very high demand zone (Yellow): €2.90 per hour
    * High demand zone (Red): €2.40 per hour
    * High demand zone - Sundays (White): €1.40 per hour on Sunday
    * Medium demand zone (Green): €1.60 per hour
    * Low demand zone (Orange): €1.00 per hour
    * Suburban villages (Blue): 60c per hour

If you buy a pack of 10 Travel 90's you can travel on the buses for an hour and a half for €1.80

All that is going to happen is that shop and office workers will move from paid to free parking at 2pm.

have to agree. even if they delayed the start time a bit as at 2pm you will just get a lot of people finishing their lunch parking in the free spaces

Bit late now but the alternative would have been to offer validated parking.

In the past Roches Stores used to give you 2 hours free parking if you spent £20 or more with them.

You could run a similar scheme, with the onstreet parking subsidising the car parks. It has to be car parks because the ticket has to be validated. And don't subsidise it fully, maybe 25:75 so the shops have to contribute a bit or some other mechanism so they don't just rubber stamp the ticket.

Oh yeah, you can get 2 hours free parking in Fleet Street car park if you donate a pint of blood. More if you can convince others to be the donors.
