    Hi

I live in killiney area, and want to put up an external aerial to pick up the 4 irish channels and bbc 1 & 2 and UTV/ITV and Channel 4. My parents live close by and receive these on their TV and i have a better unobstructed view in the direction that their aerial points.

There are varous freqencies, groups and channels and uvf or vhf or DVB-T/DAB which have all confused me... I'm going to buy one from CPC... Any sugestions on what i need? Do i need a digital one, and does that depend on what tv i have?

will i need a amplifier or power supply or anything like that

I'm new to this, any help would be great

    Thanks

To receive RTE from 3Rock you need a wide band (Group W). Most installers in Dublin fit a group A, which is incorrect. A log periodic would be best. It will receive analogue and digital. I bought mine in Dublin for 25 euro, not including mounts.

    No amp. required by me.

Can you see the sea, if so, you might be able to get Welsh TV. See other threads.:)

Your parents are probably receiving NI tv from kilkeel.
YOU should try for Llandonna in wales though or arfon.

A good wideband should do the trick with a masthead amp and power supply unit as you can try for both of those with that.
A sea view on kiliney hill strikes me as a perfect spot for those two tx'es and a definite for the Blaenplwyf tx when it comes on air in mid february.

mrdtv will be along shortly to advise on the equipment.

To receive Kilkeel you will need an amp. I would a) find out where the neighbours aerials are pointing and b) see if anyone has DTT. if there is anyone receiving Welsh Tv and after today its all DTT from Llanddona and Arfon thenbuy either a cheapo Freeview box or the Sagem Picnic box which also does Irish DTT tests. And to explore these issues a high performance wideband aerial is needed. There is NO DTT from Kilkeel till 2012 but the Welsh transmitters will all be digitised by next March AND have free HDTV by next July (new box needed!)

a free to air sat system would give all the channels mentioned and others and are cheap and easy to install
