Your on the last 3 days of your holiday to sunny Amsterdam. Unknown to you the Zombie outbreak has started on the other side of the planet, you did in fact see something about it on the news before you left but nobody knew what was happening at the time. It's now spread and outbreaks have been happening in Europe the first you hear about it is a phone call from home asking if your ok. It's only then you take note of the panic in the locals the groups watching tvs and how quiet it's gotten.

Amsterdam airport has been locked down, you haven't seen any Zombies yet you watch the news and there has been a major outbreak at Amsterdam airport, London, Paris, Berlin. In London and Paris it's quiet bad, Netherlands authorities have done a good job of locking down the outbreak so you seem safe for now.

What do you do now? Your stuck on the continent with no support, all air traffic has been stopped, Do you try to get home?

This would be my worst nightmare for a Zombie situation, your miles from home with no backup, your money, what you have may be worthless and you can't speak the local languages.

Well, at least you have back up.

I think this is pretty much a test of improvisational skills.

The first couple of days would be very important, you'd have to get as much food and water and potential weapons as the cash on your person would afford.

Secondly I would guess your hotel isn't going to kick you out. I'd start there making contacts.

If you could assume a leadership position and pool resources, you could probably form a cabaal of people with enough skills/ resources to survive for some time.

I think you could abandon hope of getting home until the zombocalypse abates.

Note I say abates, it never ends.

    zombocalypse

You should copyright that saying like I did with "zom-com"(c).

When zombageddon strikes, what will a copyright mean?

When the book of zombilations is read, money will mean nothing.

    Hmm.

My problem right there is you are on mainland europe. It has a land connection to pretty much everywhere.

I'd want to get to IReland for the main reason it is a big floating Island. But if air travel is locked down and most people will panic and try to get on a boat making travel problematic to say the least.

Alternatively stock up on supplies(ie raid the hotel kitchen) and head to the top floors of the hotel and destroy the staircase is the best short term backup plan to have.

hmm. i suppose if its worldwide then best get to a fortress, no sense in sitting around. i'd see if i could find a coach, potentially nick it or convince someone to drive it. i'd head here, the only safe place i know of in mainland europe. it is the home of the P90,the factory of FN Herstal. they not only make their own guns, but also their own ammo, the 5.7mm round. i suppose i'd have to talk my way in, but as i'm guessing the natives of the town probably work in the factory, then i'm guessing they're not going to let their town go without a fight. in which case i'd check in to the nearest hotel, and do as described above: secure food, move to the roof, and destroy the stairs; should the z's arrive. both the factory owners, and the military, would not let that town fall into zombie hands.

    = guarantee to survive.

edit: look around the district, and the town of liege. there's loads of islands [no islands in mainland europe, eh?], a 'citadel' [guessing a medieval fortress of sorts] and some big industrial complexes - supplies.

Big difference between having a sea seperate you from land then a river

Looks a little too built up for my liking long term but if the Castle is in good order that would make a good place to hold.

Also there is no such thing as safe in the zombie situation. Only safer....

The first few days/weeks of a major outbreak would be madness and loads of civil unrest. Travelling for me would be out of the question. As soon as I identified the outbreak as major, I would find the nearest building that I could secure, I would collect as much food/water/ and weapons. top floor of a building or attic would do, I would hang there for a few weeks until things settled, then I would think about getting home.

Pretty much every building in Amsterdam is part of a terrace, so being on a rooftop would be very dangerous because it'd be impossible to fully barricade. In fact, it's probably one of the worst cities to be in when there's an outbreak because there is such a high density of people. And with such a high proportion of tourists being in the city at any one time, there'll also be a lot more people on the streets with nowhere to go...because you can guarantee that hotels and hostels will be locked down once those working or staying there realise what's going on.

So, my plan would be to get out of the city asap. So the first thing I think I would do would be to hijack a barge. The waterways in Holland are very extensive, and you are connected with pretty much all of mainland Europe. On a barge you have a big level of protection from Z's with the water. So the biggest threat even from early on will be other people. But if you manage to get out of the city early then you will be in the countryside where it's easier to spot people from a distance, and people out in the countryside are likely to have their own means of transportation.

With the knowledge that i have from many a Zombie book/film, i think i'd recognise the first signs on the news before the general population, so i'd get my friends, grab as much gear as possible, and head for one of the many fortified castles near amsterdam. Ammersoyen Castle or Muiderslot Castle would do nicely. Ammersoyen especially, as it has a nice selection of medieval weapons. High wall? Check. Moat? Check. Smash the bridge, stock up on supplies from the surrounding area, and wait it out.

Ya, like anyone could hide in there :pac:

Yeah but she wasnt hiding from Zombies..

Unless its Nazi zombies but thats not likely to happen right? ;)

And besides. Hiding there didnt do her much good...(Going to hell for that one...)

I would want to escape the populated areas but would need a local guide because to be honest trying to travel to a remote place in an unknown land isnt easy at the best of times..

Anywhere else I'd agree but we are talking about the Dutch here.

Hmmm I think getting back to Ireland would be nigh on impossible unless you knew somebody with a decent private boat, in which case that would be option nunber one (Making sure to stock up on food and water first).

Otherwise I'd probably use the canals to try get out of the city. I'd try head to Germany due to the massive military population there (Americans, British etc.) and try fall in with some troops, or at least acquire some guns. If there's one thing ya need it's a gun!!
