    Hi all

A few years back I trained for the london marathon and about 3 weeks before had to pull out as I hurt my foot / ankle (did all the training on the roads which was a big mistake)

Anyway I havent been able to motivate myself to put in the effort since - can I ask what techniques you use to motivate yourself and if there are any books in this area you would recommend?

    Thanks a mill.

Fear of an embarassing time is a great motivator. And all the admiration from the ladies... :D

Just get out there. I find if I think about it too much, I can nearly talk myself out of training. Just get your gear on and get out. That's the hardest bit.

In the long dark cold wet winter my friend Angst pokes at my psyche - the thing here is to convince yourself something is knawing away at you and making it easier to go out and run the angst off then to sit in and smoulder. Works a treat...

More positively you can brainwash yourself into believing that your daily run is the most important thing in your daily schedule and that your day is imcomplete without that run.

Come racing season and longer days such negativity is unbecoming and that's where plain naked competitive urges might make the training easier.

Don't discount the angst though! Nothing like a bad race result to help you redouble your efforts and focus the oul training :)

    Good luck!
