Personally speaking my Roland FP4 has some really nice piano, organ and brass sounds. Everything from tenor sax to brass sections. Would definitely sound OK live. Can even sound like the real thing when recording, depending on how you EQ it.

Strings are OK on it, but you never get really good sounding strings on keyboards anyway. Still, if you use them subtely then they should be OK.

I'm sure there's better keyboards out there but that's just my experience!

    Hi,

Looks like a nice board, but possibly too big size wise for my needs. I was thinking of this one
    Juno Stage

Anyone got one or used it?
    Thanks

The Nord Electro 3 is amazing.

    - It's pretty famous for the Hammond with Leslie sound.
    - The acoustic Pianos are great especially the upright.
    - There is a free Nord library where you can download a wide variety of strings and brass.
It also has the Melotron library.I think the strings on these are the best.Very earthy sounding...

There is also the Fender Rhodes,Wurlitzer & Clavinet pianos and the Vox Continental organ which all sound pretty spectacular.

Yamaha boards were always considered good for 'pure' sounds like you require - one often see US Jazzers using Yamaha.

I'm a big Roland fan, best consistent natural piano samples IMHO. I was impressed with the Rhodes sounds on the Nord stuff tho.

I think it's very much a personal thing.

Muse Recepter and a Controller Keyboard and get real sounds....

I use the laptop route but up to your vibe, have a Yamaha motif XS7 too but as paul will tell ya, you mess around more with it than play it :D

    +1

I find I like my Korg SP250 (an entry-level digital piano) much more than Roland and Yamaha pianos that cost 2-4x more and have more features and better keyboards. It's totally a question of taste.

Don't buy until you have a chance to spend several minutes playing. Or at least listen to all demos you can find :)

Thanks for all your help. I went into X Music today and played a few. I am going to go with the Juno stage. The piano sound is great and it covers the bases in the others too and has a lot more besides (withouit getting too over the top as the Fantoms do)
