Hi I am a student and I work part time in a bar in Dublin city centre. I know I am lucky to even have a job in the first place but working late nights during the week is having a serious affect on my college work and I am struggling to keep up. The thing is I really need the money so can't just quit and ask for parents to fund me or something. Basically I need a job that allows me to work evenings or something! It always seems like day jobs are really hard to find in Dublin and this is why I end up working in bars. Anyway would really appreciate some tips on types of jobs or places to look as I havn't got a clue where to start.
    Thanks :)

have you tried looking in hotels for a job as a night porter?
spend the quiet times studying/sleeping, get paid and kill 2 birds with one stone.

I'm thinking by "effect", he means lack of sleep, poor concentration, etc, so working as a night porter may not be the solution.

OP: look for deli jobs. I often see notices in shops looking for said jobs. No offecnse, but are you Irish, Asian, or what? If foreign, look at shops with your own nationality, and apply there. I've noticed that some shops only emply their own. Probably not legal, but meh.

When I was in college, I worked in a deli to begin with (though gotta say I hated it) but then moved to work in a call centre. Call centres usually offer wider hours than 9-5, you don't necessarily have to work all night but can do a late evening shift or daytimes at weekends. Sometimes the work will involve cold calling / sales (which is kinda awful) but if you can get yourself a customer service gig or, better yet, a 'reactive' call centre job, where you just have to be sitting there ready to take a call as and when one comes in, they're the best. I would sit at my desk studying (or reading a magazine, or dozing) with the headset on, and then you just had to switch back into work mode when a call came through. I used to work Sunday nights when I'd only have a call every half hour or so, it was great. Mind, this was all about 10 years ago, so maybe the industry has changed a lot. But for me, back then, it was the perfect, easygoing college job. If you want to know the name of the company I was with, PM me! (Don't think I can mention it here, right?)
