Why do people say it's easier to find a job when you already have one?

    Do you really agree?

I have been looking to get into veterinary nursing for ages now and looking for a position as a trainee nurse and i'm getting nowhere. Would i be better off lying and saying i finished up in company x even though i'm still there.

Because you don't have a gap on your CV and/or need to explain why you left the last company (and it usually takes longer then people expect).

As for lying, lets put it this way, what will you do when they ask you to start Monday next week in your new position as you're unemployed?
