    A swingers party.

I met my wife at one. Our eyes caught each others for a moment. She was surrounded by 6 men. I knew there was an instant connection. She felt it too.

The rest as they say is history.

I've been wondering the same. It seems to me that it's ****e here for meeting singles especially if you're not into the pub scene.

Any kind of open club or class which involves a bit of socialising' dance lessons are always popular and fun; a bit better than finding some hammered randomer on a stumble out of ...the Quays!

Don't think the Quays would be a good place imo. But depends on what age group your looking for.

The Skeff was buzzing on Saturday night with a mix of all ages :D

Might be stating the obvious but....check various notice boards/posters for events/classes/general stuff that interests you...it's highly likely another single person would also attend such a gathering...

Was in Busker's on Sat night and I swear the smell of want from the women in there was serious. You know you're onto a winner when the women are offering to buy YOU drinks... think i'll go back next weekend for a cheap night out :pac:

The problem is where to go to meet them, especially if you don't want to deal with the meatmarket factor of Galway pubs and clubs

GB, off topic but what's your Vimeo signature all about?

Join a Tag Rugby team when the spring league start up. That worked for certain posters on this thread :p.

I totally agree. How about Galway Social Space for non-alcoholic territory? They seem to run all kinds of stuff, and the venture's whole purpose is to be a place for people to meet (from what I understand, not having actually crossed the threshold myself). Or join an Irish class, a choir, a book club… I'm sure there's plenty of stuff going on in town where you could meet someone nice. Don't look too hard and it will find you when you least expect it. Best of luck. :)

Threadstarter...think you are approaching this the wrong way. It's not a problem of where to meet single people, it's a matter of how you do it. Also, posting for answers on a forum will not help you i'm afraid, use your computer for dating sites, more productive(even if it is an interesting post, and...I am replying to it...whatever, my logic). I will give you my 5 cents before i go.

    1. If you are plain, mix it up a bit (get some wicked shoes or a new style/haircut)
    2. If you are a bit odd/wierd, dress / behave wierd as you feel inside (be yourself)
    3. Dress classy - sharp/cool not-to-cheap suit (you may look a bit out of place in places but there may be likeminded that can identify with you - icebreaker)
    4. Don't stand alone and stare and/or smile at strangers - they will think you are the midnight strangler - this only works in romantic comedy (although then it is not staring)
    5. Good luck - i realise he above is mostly bar-related but what the hell it might work in the library too

I should write a book about this

My advice is to spend time doing stuff that you enjoy, that way you'll meet people with similar interests and extend your social group. The best way to meet someone you want more than a one night stand with is through friends I think. Extend your social group by doing some new stuff; climbing, book clubs, walking clubs, clubbing baby seals, whatever it might be ...

Been to the Quays once. It was horrible. I don't think I'm a supermodel or anything but if one more fat, fifty, moustachio-ed mucker was pig ignorant enough to think he had a chance with me I was gonna piss in his pint. That's the kind of classy girl I am.

I agree with Dafunk; Quays is probably one of the worst places in Galway to meet somebody; for exactly the reasons listed above.

Plenty of good suggestions on here; but the most important things is to be yourself and not to come across too enthusiastic in any given situation. Much like men, women also find this offputting; unless of course their biological clock is ticking loudly.

You go into the Quays and you'll see Flavor Flav size biological clocks.

I suggest that you bring a translator !.

I love the comments about how single men are supposed to act if they go out. Don't stand alone, don't smile, choice of dress etc, in other words don't go out alone !.

I feel so sorry for all those women who were turned down by the god JC. What hope for us mere mortals ?. Does JC keep a list of rejects ?.

There's a new social site mentioned in the 'things to do' sticky call 4 the craic.
I know some of the people involved. It's not just singles, but they have singles nights I think.

Nimmos can be good craic depending what's on. BK's later at night when the dining is over. My single pals tell me it's doubly hard to meet people if you don't drink. Think about events in Javas or afternoon meets in pubs tend to be less boozy.

There was a moment last night, when she was sandwiched between the two Finnish dwarves and the Maori tribesmen, where I thought, 'Wow, I could really spend the rest of my life with this woman.'

    Why not try the internet?

I met a really nice guy online. Turns out he was a 12 year old paraplegic.... needless to say, the sex wasn't great.*
