    Hi,

I have a packard bell laptop bought in 2004. Its a 2.8Ghz Pentium4 K series. About 2 years ago the thing just stopped booting after I tried to install a webcam. Now it loads up, but then restarts itself after about 30seconds.

I really don't mind if the laptop is banjaxed but is there anyway of getting the harddrive copied? family photos etc of people who has since passed.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks

Shouldn't be that difficult. Firstly, what operating system was it running (I'm presuming XP) Have you tried booting from a boot disk? Or more to the point, have you tried booting into safe mode. To do this hold down F8 before the machine goes into windows and pick "safe mode" from the options. When it boots uninstall all the webcam stuff and reboot :D

Even if above dosn't work it is possible to get the drive out and install in another pc, but I doubt that will be necessary tbh

it's my parents laptop and to be honest i havent the faintest clue about removing hard drives etc. it was running XP, I just have to find half the charger (it had a high power charger because at the time it was a high power laptop - before it broke it didnt last 5 seconds on battery time).

would anybody reccommend a good repair shop that would have a wide selection of chargers where i could just drop off and pick up? pcworld charged me 45euro just to look at it!
