has anyone used software such as newcode or vbmigration partner
to convert vb6 applications to .net?
we've a couple of large projects to convert and they'd take ages to convert manually.
I know the migration tool in visual studio is pretty useless.

There is no point in converting them. If they require a major upgrade in terms of additional functionality or need to incorporate features which are not available in VB6 then the time and cost to rewrite them is likely to be a lot less than trying to convert and then enhance.
