well lads you may remember my thread i started looking for an AYA Yeoman

    http://usenet.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055671306&highlight=yeoman

i rang every gun shop in the country looking for one and only managed to locate 2 second hand models. 1 in Offally which was in very worn condition and €550 was the asking price. The other was in excellent condition and it was in Westmeath and it was €790 but it had a pistol grip and not the old english stock i wanted.

just about to give up on my final call of irish gundealers that was supplied by boards wiki a dealer in Wexford put me onto a gunshop in Dublin that he beleived had one.

On ringing the shop asking for an AYA Yeoman the man began to lauph. He indeed had one in stock but it was given into him to be destroyed as the owner no longer wanted it. The guards had a letter to this fact that the gun was due to be broken up. Worse again he told me the gun was in perfect condition, side by side, old english stock just like i wanted.

Luckily he was a gentleman and said if he could get the guards to let me have a chance to buy it and "save it" so to speak i could have it. All for the tidy sum of €100  he said it was a lovely gun and a shame to see it be destroyed and he would love to see it go to a good home.

I thought it was too good to be true and he told me not to come up and see it unless the guards didnt have the letter gone through yet. So i had a few days of very nervous waiting until when i was called and he told me come on up. He had contacted the local sergeant and i has the all clear to come up and view the gun. When i got there true to his word it was perfect and i mean like new and i paid the money straight away, and the old owner who let it in to be destryed was very happy with the few quid he got for it. So i applied for my new license and 6 weeks later i had the gun just in time for the seaon on Nov 1st. All with free box of cartridges.

So if anyone is looking for a certain type of gun keep looking and dont leave any stone uncovered. Espeically in todays climate with old guns being left into shops and prices dropping.

If anyone is intersted i dealt with Neil in Crecent Sports in Dun Laoighre, County Dublin. He was an absolute gentleman to deal with, straight as a die and true to his word and not out to make a quick buck off anyone. I couldnt recommend him anyone more highly.

thats the truth. if i am ever chaging my gun again or anything i will be gone straight back to him. he definitly the man for side by sides. he had some english made s/s there second hand he wanted i think €750 for. in mint cond. down my neck of the woods in laois/offally you can at least double the prices you for the same gun down here.

I've been busy, haven't made a call, and have no money anyway (Quite the opposite. :p) but I think I might pop down sometime and have a look. His gunroom is very nice indeed.

Very nice. He's one of a small handful of dealers I've met who has all the time in the world just to talk and waffle on about things as well. It's good business, because you'll nearly always end up buying something out of good feeling, and you'll come back too.
