    49. Muse – ‘Absolution’

    Ahead of OoS? Lol, farce

Wilco should be at least 40 places higher!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 188 ✭✭powerfade

No Kings of Leon is very surprising, 2 unreal albums and 2 very good albums, bringing a fresh sound to the noughties. How its not on the list when you have 2 Streets albums and an MIA album in top 50 is pretty shocking in my opinion...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,872 ✭✭✭Dickerty

Kid A doesn't deserve to be that high.

    No Sigur Ros?
    No Royksopp?
Are they too electro for NME? Avalanches are in there.

    No Kings of Leon?

Wincing the Night away the best Shins album? F*ck off.
No Rated R. No Fleet Foxes. Neon Bible???

At least they got number 1 right.

As far as I know these were voted for by bands and producers etc....not just the NME staffers.

No Ian Brown is hilarious really. No problem with number 1 though.

Room on fire is a great album, but you cant beat "is this it"... room on fire for me would be a 9, is this it a 10 :D

Wow, joke of a list. To be expected from NME tho.

Room on Fire is great but there are about 3 songs that let it down. Is This It has 11 classics basically

    what a terrible decade

The list is a bit all over the shop but I'm glad to see Interpol's TOTBL in the top 10. I think they could have sacrificed the 2nd Libs album and ones like it for far worthier albums, I think they include it cause they always champion brit bands like them, but Interpol and Muse are more worthy of having a 2nd album on that list than the libs IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 260 ✭✭Kid V

what a bizarre list. it is however a lot better than what i thought it would be when i initially clicked on this thread. i mean an nme list with no kasabian, oasis, kings of leon or the cribs:eek: very surprising. im not saying they should be but you'd expect them all to be there. it is nme after all

A best of list without the National, Animal Collective and particularly Sigur Rós is ridiculous imo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 650 ✭✭✭Aridstarling

Bit ridiculous on the whole, but I am glad to see Relationship of Command there. I haven't really seen it elsewhere which is a crying shame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 291 ✭✭Kevin Bacon

Ditto Sigur Ros and the national, no OoS and absolution on it wtf?

Am I the only one who thinks in rainbows should have been top 3 or at least top? Better then up the bracket in my opinion anyway not sure 'bout strokes never really listened to it.

    *Puts on to do list

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭Placid_Casual

All in all, pretty predictable and unimaginative really. Does anyone actually take the NME seriously anymore? I mean The Coral, Klaxons, Babyshambles...really?

As others have pointed out, no Sigur Ros, Animal Collective, The National or Fleet Foxes. Also, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by Flaming Lips and The Crane Wife by The Decemberists are glaring omissions to me.

Also, if you're going to have Ryan Adams on there, he's had about half a dozen better albums than Gold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭Daysha

    No Fleet Foxes.
They found room for two Yeah Yeah Yeahs albums yet left out "It's Blitz".
Not a single Killers album. Not even "Hot Fuss".
"Kid A" is too high, "In Rainbows" is too low.
"Absolution" over "Origin of Symmetry". Seriously?

    Yeah, joke list.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 80 ✭✭Madou

Hang on , In Rainbows above Kid A? Gold on the list and not Heartbreaker? Wilco dragging up the rear? No Bjork or Sigur Ros?

Wincing the Night Away/ Libs s/t...hmmmm, NME, finger - pulse - nahhhh

Where the fúck is Sigur Rós? :(

    So that list has -

    - No Muse
    - No Biffy Clyro
    - No Death Cab
    - No Doves
    - 'Alligator' instead of 'Boxer'
    - 'Turn On The Bright Lights' at 53
    - TWO Dylan albums in the top 10
    - FOUR White Stripes albums
    - No 'Hot Fuss'
    - No 'Robbers & Cowards' (on either list)

These lists really do shit me

I guarantee that both of those Dylan albums will last a lot longer than most of the stuff on that list. Both are excellent albums.

I really think any of Nick Cave and the Bad Seed's more recent albums should have been up there."Dig!!!Lazarus!!!Dig!!!" and "Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus" are stone cold classics....As is "Grinderman"...

Also, where the fcuk is "Priamry Colours" by the Horrors????

A must have if you aint heard it....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭Notorious

That NME list is a load of s****. I suppose that's not a surprise though. Quite a few bands missing that I would've definitely put in; Fleet Foxes, New Order, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and some of the others you folks have said like Oasis and Sigur Rós. How they justify the likes of Amy Winehouse, LCD Soundsystem and Jay Z being in there above the others I don't know.

Sticking with the 50 bands that are in it, the order is completely messed up IMO. Is This It and Up the Bracket are both great albums, but they're definitely not the best of this decade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,165 ✭✭✭insinkerator

Im also disappointed with the lack of Sigur Ros.

While i wouldnt have put it up there, im surpriesde MGMT didnt get the nod, or only by night from KoL

I would also have liked to see a little love for Mogwai - Happy Music for Happy People, and ASIWYFA debut. Two excellent release imo

EDIT: Bon Iver should be on there too

What about: By The Way - Red Hot Chilli Peppers? Maybe its just me but i thought this was one of the biggest/best albums of the decade!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,752 ✭✭✭markesmith

Strokes at #1? Never really got them, pretty rich kids, thought it was done a lot better in 1977-79 by Television, The Fall, etc etc. White Stripes should be there or thereabouts, and there's much more innovation in Kid A than in the Strokes entire canon.

Libertines as well, a British version of the Strokes. Primal Scream, Xtrmntr is nowhere near as good as Vanishing Point. Agree with a lot of the rest, but a few duds: Interpol, Shins, Sufjan Stevens (very overrated IMO), Think Tank...

MIA, White Stripes, Wilco, Animal Collective/Panda Bear all criminally underrepresented here, but it's good to see that the NME are still slavishly following their trends! :pac:

Just to comment on M.I.A., I don't think Arular is good enough to be in the top 50 but I'm shocked and disappointed that Kala isn't there. Kala definitely deserves to be in the list.

On top of that, no Kings of Leon, no Nick Cave, no Cat Power, no Sigur Ros, no Bat for Lashes, no Breeders (Mountain Battles beats Last Splash imo) - yeah, the list is a bit disappointing. But with 10 years of music and only 50 spots, there's always going to be great albums that miss out.

In Rainbows should be No.1 though!
