    Hey folks

Looking for opinions on electronic drumkits. I'm sure the question has been asked here before in general, but if anyone has any specific advice on the 300-400 Euro price range I'd appreciate it. I know as with all of these things you pay for what you get, but I don't want to go beyond 400 euro.

Thomann have got these two at the price point (399 Euro):

    Simmons SD7K:

    Alesis DM6:

I know the Simmons doesn't come with a kick pedal, but that's ok I already have one from my acoustic kit that I'll be using no matter which kit I buy. I've been acoustic drumming for 12 years but get to play less and less for various reasons, so I'm looking for a practice kit for the gaff to keep me going, without annoying the neighbours or my family ;)

I'm leaning towards the Alesis, but that's only because it's a brand I'm familiar with, but I'm a total newb when it comes to electronic kit. I always assumed electronic kits were just muck, but I recently had a bash on a mate's Millenium/Tbone cheapie thomann kit and I was blown away by it, so that will tell how low my quality threshold probably is. :D

Anyone got experience of either of those two kits/brands?

Personally, I'd go with the Alesis although I would try and stretch the budget and get this:

The mesh heads are fantastic and the brain is very good. Plus you get a kick pedal and throne.

Thanks for that link, price doesn't look too much different, though Thomann offer free shipping I wonder if that shop do too.

I take it the DM5 is better than the DM6 (I had seen both but perhaps wrongly assumed that the latest model with the higher number would be an upgrade)..?

Edit: The Dm5 one you linked to is 405 including shipping, which is about 456 Euro. Not that much more granted, but I started off not wanting to spend more than 300 before stretching to 400! :)

Further edit: From looking at some reviews, it seems those heads are pretty loud (and not actually true mesh either..?) so I think that would rule it out for me

Been reading too many bad things about the Alesis DM6's snare, problems with it's volume and skipped beats. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I don't want a frustrating piece of kit either.

I'm gonna go and have a look at the Roland HD-1, which would be stretching my original budget of 300-400 euro up to nearly 600. All the reviews seem good, and there are some pretty impressive demo videos on YouTube of it.

The negative comments I've seen say things like, "it looks like a toy" (size of it doesn't bother me, actually looks like an advantage to me!), "You can't expand it" (doesn't bother me, has the same set up as my acoustic kit), "the Brain is limited" (not a problem if I patch the MIDI out into something like EZDrummer etc), and "you can't change the positions of the kick/hat pedals" (this is the only one that concerns me, and trying it out this weekend should let me know if that's a big deal).

Anyone here got any experience of them?

Roland HD1 is defo ! I would highly recommend one. Price point is €595 / €599 and you can buy it in Ireland and have someone to go back to if you have any trouble. You can also get a PM10 Monitor (€120ish) if you want to expand it to play without headphones. Its an excellent system and the snare pad is a mesh head. The Alesis/Simmons are quite like the Hayman DD03. The pads are great at first and start to dent after a bit, it a great drumkit for under €500, but you get what you pay for and with the Roland you get way more.
